Strong writing wins cases. Yet, in today’s fast-paced legal environment, written advocacy often takes a back seat. Join an esteemed panel of judges and practitioners for an interactive CLE program focused on what truly works in trial court writing. This session will provide candid insight into effective advocacy, common pitfalls, and practical strategies to sharpen your written voice in state and federal courts.

Appointed to the federal bench in 2019, Judge Wilson presides over a wide array of civil and criminal matters. A former litigator and adjunct law professor, she has taught legal writing and continues to emphasize its importance in trial practice. She brings a federal trial court judge’s view on what makes written advocacy persuasive and effective.
Judge Curcillo was elected to the Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas in 2009 after more than two decades as a prosecutor, including service as Chief Deputy District Attorney. She has dedicated her career to public service, and brings a trial court judge’s perspective on effective written advocacy.
A career defense lawyer with extensive trial and appellate experience, Ms. Lappas has dedicated her practice to ensuring clients’ voices are heard in the criminal legal system. She believes that compelling written advocacy is not only a legal skill but also a tool to ensure dignity and humanity for those she represents.
Ms. Montgomery represents employers in complex labor and employment litigation in both state and federal courts. In addition to her litigation practice, she is a leader in her firm and the broader bar, with decades of experience advising employers and training managers. She offers a practitioner’s perspective on crafting clear, persuasive legal arguments in complex civil litigation.
