Tucker Arensberg is committed to recruiting well-rounded, articulate individuals with strong academic credentials.  We seek lawyers who are dedicated to providing the highest quality client service, and who will thrive in our collegial and supportive environment.

Please read on to learn about our hiring process, work life and more.

Associate Hiring Process:
Although there are no specific criteria you must meet to qualify for a position at Tucker Arensberg, we pursue candidates with impressive academic credentials, character, attitude, energy, and non-academic interests.  We look for a combination of law school performance, undergraduate achievement and law review participation.

We recruit our associates through on-campus interviews in September or October, and unsolicited resumes and referrals from our own lawyers.

Associate Work Life:

We offer a competitive salary, a challenging yet collegial work environment, a variety of legal practice areas, an early opportunity for responsibility and client contact, and the chance to build your own practice and manage your own career.  From the beginning, our associates get "hands-on" experience within their assigned practice group.  Tucker Arensberg associates gain decision-making responsibility as soon as their own personal growth allows.

Tucker Arensberg encourages associates to work with and obtain written feedback from various shareholders throughout the firm.  Therefore, associates may be evaluated by any shareholder in the firm with whom they have worked.  Evaluations are conducted at the end of each fiscal year by the associate’s group head.  Prior to the actual evaluation, associates are asked to evaluate themselves and draft an action plan for career development.  This helps the face-to-face evaluation focus on specific goals for the associate’s continued progress as a professional.

Associate Business Development Training:

Tucker Arensberg understands that today's associates will be tomorrow's rainmakers.  We offer opportunities for our associates to network at golf outings, luncheons, cocktail parties and various events throughout the year.  We encourage associates to participate in one or more of our practice sub-groups, such as:  Estate and Trusts, Insolvency and Creditors' Rights, Healthcare, Technology/Intellectual Property, Labor and Employment, Workers Compensation, Employee Benefits, Municipal/School Law and Real Estate/Construction.

The firm encourages each associate to develop his/her own marketing plan as a first step in building a clientele.  For 5 years now, the firm retains an independent business development trainer to help associates learn how to build their own practices.  After the group session, the trainer offered the associates one-on-one coaching sessions.

Social Interaction:
A less formal, but no less important, element of the work life at Tucker Arensberg is the social interaction among attorneys and staff.  We recognize that it is easier to work with people with whom you can easily communicate and share experiences.  Each year the firm solicits volunteers for the firm's Social Committee, which organizes the following events:

  • Quarterly cocktail parties

  • Softball team (playing other law firms, accounting firms, etc.)

  • Employee family picnic

  • Holiday Party

The Social Committee has also organized the firm’s participation in the following community service events:

  • Scouting For Food project (collecting food for the less fortunate)

  • United Way Day of Caring (home repairs/painting for a women's shelter)

"Big firm capability, small firm atmosphere."

"I’m doing things here in my second year that 5-7 year associates don’t do at the larger firms.  I have supervision, but I am expected to jump into projects feet first and do what is asked."

-- associate

"I enjoy being part of the 'team.'  I have the opportunity to participate in activities that are generally reserved for shareholders like recruiting, client interaction and marketing opportunities."
