Jeffrey J. Leech
Jeff’s practice focuses on business litigation, defense of personal injury claims, and representation of employee benefit plans.
Jeff has represented financial institutions, public utilities, construction companies and employee benefit plans in more than 2,000 lawsuits in Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Maryland, New York, Virginia, West Virginia and Texas.
Jeff was trial counsel in such significant cases as:
- Elder v. Orluk (landmark case under the Pennsylvania Comparative Negligence Act)
- Steiner v. Bell Telephone (rejecting loss of consortium for minors in Pennsylvania)
- Laborers’ Combined Funds of Western Pennsylvania v. Transamerica Insurance Company (establishing the parameters of recovery under the Pennsylvania Bond Law)
Jeff is a shareholder and chair of the firm’s Employee Benefits Group.
Areas of Practice: Jeff’s areas of practice include business litigation, personal injury defense and employee benefits.
Presentations: Jeff has been a frequent lecturer at the International Foundation of Employee Benefits.
Honors and Awards: Jeff has been a member of the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County since 1993 and has served as a Special Master by the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County. In addition, Jeff has been an arbitrator and mediator in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association (ACBA) Federal Court and Bench-Bar Committees.
Jeff was named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer® for General Litigation and was selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® in Commercial Litigation and “Bet-the-Company Litigation”. He was named by Pittsburgh Magazine as one of Pittsburgh’s best litigators. Jeff has an AV® rating in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory which is the highest rating for legal ability and ethical standards awarded by this national directory of lawyers.
Jeff is a former Chair of the Allegheny County Bench-Bar Conference and is the current Chair of the Allegheny County Foundation Golf Committee that raises funds to support pro bono work.
Jurisdictions: Jeff is admitted to practice before all Pennsylvania State Courts, the U.S. District Court for Western Pennsylvania, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Education and Background: Jeff received his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Pittsburgh where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. His Juris Doctor is from Indiana University, magna cum laude. While in law school he was Associate Editor of the Indiana Law Review.
