

Steven B. Silverman
Steven B. Silverman, a
shareholder in the firm’s Litigation Department, practices civil litigation
with an emphasis on commercial litigation. Steve is also co-chair of the
firm’s Technology Group. Steve handles business disputes involving such
areas as trade secret theft and restrictive employment covenants,
particularly in the context of the computer, software and high technology
industries.
Steve’s technology practice encompasses counseling a diverse array of clients
ranging from software developers and consultants to web hosting companies. Steve
has handled matters involving internet advertising claims, copyright
infringements, licensing and various e-commerce issues. Steve has also written
and lectured on these topics for many groups. He was selected by his
peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® for 2006, 2007 and 2008 in the Information
Technology Law
category and named a 2006 and 2007 Pennsylvania Super Lawyer in the Civil Litigation
Defense Category. His article “Protect Your Trade Secret!” was published in
PA Manufacturer, a publication of Pennsylvania’s industrial resource centers.
For several years, Steve served as an adjunct professor at Carnegie Mellon
University’s Graduate School of Industrial Administration, teaching a course
entitled “Labor and Employment Issues in the High Tech Workplace.”
Steve’s litigation practice also includes handling cases under ERISA, contract
disputes, construction cases, zoning and land use matters and in collection
actions.
Steve has successfully tried jury and non-jury trials in both state and federal
courts. He has argued cases before both the Pennsylvania Superior and
Commonwealth appellate courts. Steve is admitted to practice before the United
States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, the United
States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the United States Court of
Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
Steve is a member of the Pennsylvania, Allegheny County and American Bar
Associations. He also served as a Barrister in the University of Pittsburgh
Chapter of the American Inns of Court.
Steve graduated cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where
he was a recipient of a University Merit Scholarship and served as a Managing
Editor of the University of Pittsburgh Journal of Law and Commerce. Steve is
also a graduate with honors from Franklin and Marshall College.
