Thomas P. Peterson
Thomas P. Peterson is an attorney
in the firm’s Business and Finance Department and Co-Chair of the
Municipal and School Practice Group.
Tom’s practice is concentrated in the areas of
corporate and business matters, labor and employment and school law. Tom has
had primary responsibility for legal matters from companies ranging from sole
proprietorships to international corporations with over $2 billion in annual
sales. He has worked extensively in a wide variety in matters, including
mergers and acquisitions, shareholder agreements, financing, general contracts
and franchising. Tom’s labor and employment practice includes labor
negotiations, executive employment agreements and severance agreements,
non-competition agreements, arbitrations and unfair labor practices and employee
litigation. In addition to businesses involved in a wide variety of industries,
Tom’s clients also include many non-profit corporations and associations.
Education law is an important element of Mr.
Peterson’s practice. He serves as Solicitor to Mt. Lebanon School District, and
has been involved in all aspects of public education law for over 20 years. Tom
has served as labor counsel and special counsel for many area municipalities and
school districts. His school and municipal practice includes public sector
labor and employment law, student matters, bidding and public contracts, tax
assessment and collection, and public sector finance.
Tom graduated from Gannon University in 1977,
and received his law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in
1980. After a one year judicial clerkship, he began private practice in
Pittsburgh in 1981. He was selected by his peers for inclusion in the Best
Lawyers in America® 2007 and 2008 in the Education Law category. He also has an
AV rating in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, which is the highest rating
for legal ability and ethical standards awarded by this national directory of
lawyers.
