Jeffrey J. Leech
Mr. Leech, a shareholder and Co-Chair in the firm's Litigation
Department.
Jeff's practice focuses on business litigation, construction and employee benefit litigation under ERISA.
He has represented financial
institutions, public utilities, construction companies and employee benefit
plans in more than 2,000 lawsuits in Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey,
Maryland, New York, Virginia, West Virginia and Texas.
Jeff served as trial counsel in such significant cases as Elder v. Orluk (landmark case
under the Pennsylvania Comparative Negligence Act); Steiner v. Bell Telephone (rejecting
loss of consortium for minors in Pennsylvania); and Laborer's Combined Funds of Western
Pennsylvania v. Transamerica
Insurance Company (establishing the parameters of recovery under the Pennsylvania Bond Law).
Jeff received his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Pittsburgh where he was elected
to Phi Beta Kappa. His J.D. is from Indiana University, magna cum laude. He earned his
degree in 1974 and while in law school he was Associate Editor of the Indiana Law Review.
He has two published articles.
He
was named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer®
in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008 for General Litigation and
was selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America®
in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 in the Commercial Litigation Law
category. He has been elected
to the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County and has served as a Special
Master by the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County and as an Arbitrator and
Mediator by the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
Jeff has served as the Chair of the Allegheny County Bench Bar Conference.
Jeff is admitted to practice
before all Pennsylvania state courts, the U.S. District Court for Western
Pennsylvania, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and the U.S.
Supreme Court.
